apree health – the new name for the joint Castlight Health and Vera Whole Health merger – is seeking an experienced healthcare Actuarial Consultant to join our centralized Analytics team.  We are entering an exciting new growth phase in which we are combining our individual company histories of top-rated digital/in-person navigation and the highly effective delivery of advanced primary care to launch exciting new differentiating solutions into the marketplace. 

About the Team

The Analytics team is a group of highly skilled members who work together toward a culture of data-driven decision-making across the organization.  Our team uses a diverse array of data to provide analytic insights that support the entire organization, including Customer Success, Product Management, Sales and Marketing, and most recently, patient-care teams delivering Advanced Primary Care.

We operate on a Google Cloud Platform and utilize technical tools that include: SQL/DataGrip/Bigquery, Tableau, Alembic/Terraform, Gitlab, Python, Airflow, Mixpanel, R Studio, and SAS.

About the Job

Our Analytics team is seeking a Principal Actuarial Consultant who will be responsible for supporting actuarial analyses and contracts involving financial risk. This includes modeling potential outcomes and establishing targets to support decision making related to various risk arrangements to enable success in a value-based environment. The role will support Finance and Operations in identifying and developing strategic growth opportunities, partnering with payers, providers, and service partners to identify financial risk, clinical risk, cost, and revenue opportunities.

This team member will report directly to the VP of Analytics.

Business Role and Responsibilities:

  • Play a key role in creation of analytical solutions and business models such as forecasting, benchmarking and other business models to provide actionable insights to stakeholders
  • Support the Sales teams by designing tools and process to support prospective client engagements – including supporting population analytics, modeling and cost/price target setting
  • Collaborate with the Finance team to define and develop revenue projection and pricing models
  • Support the creation of models to calculate clinical program performance and produce an ROI

Key Characteristics:

  • A depth of knowledge and hands-on experience with operating against value-based arrangements with a sound understanding of payer/provider relationships and contracting
  • Proven ability to work cross-functionally and build collaboration and consensus across different stakeholders
  • Skilled at presenting complex findings in a simple and understandable way to external and internal audiences of various levels
  • Self-sufficient, ready to roll up your sleeves, and not afraid of ambiguity
  • Solution-focused with a strong client presence
  • A self-starter with ability to work effectively across multiple competing priorities

Specific Requirements:

  • 8+ years of relevant actuarial experience in the healthcare industry (e.g. consulting, strategy, healthcare operations, health plans)
  • Strong background and understanding of healthcare payment practices and fee-schedules
  • Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of healthcare financial and operational data and reporting as well as healthcare technology
  • Experience designing two-sided risk-based payment models with providers and knowledge of how providers are successful in advanced risk-based arrangements in multiple market segments
  • Deep understanding of alternative care delivery models and healthcare reform
  • Experience with pricing and reserving
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Finance, Statistics, Economics, or Mathematics
  • Designation/Credential: ASA or FSA
  • Master’s degree in Public Health, Statistics, Economics, or Business Administration preferred
